The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I definitely agree it has been a slow start. Im excited things are starting to roll forward now. I just set 30 BBS eggs hoping to find a few good blacks and better blues for next year. Im excited about them. I just set up my Splash over Blue pen about a month ago and i set a few of those as well to check fertility. Hopefully my splash boy is doing his part. This guy is about 8-9 months old i believe I noticed some white in his ear lobe. Isnt this a DQ and will it pass in in his chicks? Hes got really nicer girth to him. His legs are a bit long i believe. Any tips to improve in this project? Michael

We are up to 5 Gold Laced Orpington babies.

I don't see any more pipping at all though. The last one took almost a day to hatch, I thought she wasn't going to make it! I think the temps in our incubator ran a little high as almost everything in there has hatched early...

ok our hatch is done got 5 black EO chicks from 8 eggs...the 3 that did not hatch died just before hatch probably on the 19th or 20th day because they had not absorbed their yolks yet...here is a pic of them!!

Tomorrow, grab a soft tooth brush and wooz up those babies. They would normally run in and out under their mother, and get fluffed. You have to play mother hen when you incubate. They'll stay a lot warmer.

Hopefully i get a few nice blacks in these. I just loaded up 15 of Irenes BBS eggs safetly into my new bator (2). She did an exceptional job getting the eggs to me in their little paded space shuttle lookin thingy. Thats what my nephew called it and as a matter of fact has little Lego men loaded up into the little egg cut out. I give her an AAA for her shipping methods.
