The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I like the look of this group here. The rooster is amazing

Welcome to the thread chicken stratch!
I like his stance..however his lower chest is flat. He might be young and need time to fill out more. The hens have wonderful chests. They are pretty..Are these Dutch at the Nationals? I forgot to look. It looks like a very large place and show.

I would love to have stock like this.

The video was uploaded byba person named hendaisy. She uploads videos all the time at shows and events either in Germany or the Nertherlands i believe. Not too many LF, a few here and there.

I would love to have like a critique of these birds from anyone who wouldnt mind. Im teaching myself about proper type and stuff like that by reading and studying pictures hours on end. So it would be real helpful if the knowledable folk teach us a thing or two here.

This kind of goes back to what Jeremy and Jhorn were saying

There were a few posts a while back ive been trying to find about keeping eggs seperated during hatching using suet baskets... I cant seem to find the posts, ive went and bought the baskets though. But what i wanted to know was, what am i supposed to use to put inside the baskets to lay the eggs on? I believe someone said a wash cloth? Thanks. Im going into lockdown monday so if i have to get anything this weekend when i go in town id like to make a list so i dont forget. Would you mind reposting the picture please. Thank you! :) Michael

Michael, I've been using little white Rubbermaid storage baskets. I have some by Mainstays and some from Big Lots. I just lay paper towels in the bottom. They work fine. They come in various sizes. As for height, it would depend on your hatcher.

I do think the wire suet basket would work better. You could probably use some rubber shelf liner. You know like the non-skid type. You might could reuse it. But, I wouldn't. It's cheap enough.

Thats also a good idea! Thanks Alton. Im using a genesis 1588. Do you think theyd fit in there? Ill look for the shelf liner too. I like that stuff!

Michael,

I know we are a little off the topic here. But, these are English Orpington eggs and some others. I don't think the baskets will work in your Genesis 1588. Here's a little incubator that I just picked up at Tractor Supply. It's on sale for $35 BTW. It is getting me out of a jam. Works great. I added a computer fan and the temp is dead on. Anyway, look at the pic. This is one way to divide your eggs. I am in lockdown. But, I opened it just for you. So, feel special. Nevermind the dirty eggs. I incubate them separately, but hatch them together. They're too precious not to try. I have great success with dirty eggs. So, why not? I never wash any though. I just scrape the majority of the poop off with a utility knife. Tic-toc. Now, the waiting begins.

How many eggs are you setting?

I use the rubberized shelf line. I buy it by the case so it is really reasonable that way. I find they slip and slide on paper towels and some times stick to them if they lay in one position while drying in the hatcher. I have never had them stick or slide on the the rubber shelf liner (also available at the dollar store). It can be washed and dried in the dryer if you wish to reuse it on the next hatch.
