The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

When the chicks are getting their first set of feathers, not the baby fluff they are born with, does that give indication as to what color they will be as adults? I have some coming in jet black and some slate blue. A few have white tipped wing feathers, will those be replaced by solid colored feathers usually? These are mostly blues and blacks, but I am guessing the chance of a splash might be there. Though honestly they were all so dark as chicks I doubt it.

Oh, I had asked before about feet with white toes, mine had tips and sometimes up to the ankle white, now they are turning a lovely dark color all the way down. Some almost black.

It is the little things that make me happy.

Thanks!

Nope, that was what I wanted exactly. I just have no idea what these guys look like as they mature so there will be silly questions as time goes on. Still learning here. You are the best Renie!

Just checking in with the thread. I hope everyone is doing well and getting warmer!

They are like potato chips (really really expensive potato chips), you can't just have one, or two, or twenty...

Yes Michael .. they will come around when you start bringing them treats.... My kids have me trained that way... :) good luck
One thing I do when time permits is I sit down at the side of their brood tub and use a voice just for the chicks like Baby talk. I Hold a little piece of bread and they all come running and trying to get a crumb of it. Tonite and last nite the little week olds were thinking of jumping out to follow me. They are so stinkin cute. I find it works better with small groups.
