The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I also use the head dot until big enough for numbered bands..have to touch colors up but at a glance..I can tell ones I want to watch To see how they will feather out if I like what I see as they are growing..later on they get their permanent nys Id wing or leg bands..I do like the toe punch idea..I only have very few every year so easy for me to keep track..

My babies love soaked Quaker rolled oats mixed in with their Medicated Chick Starter. I just pour some hot water over the oats. Let them soak for 5-10 minutes, and mix them into the starter. That moistens the starter too. Let me know their reaction !

Quaker! I knew it was something from the grocery store!

I was also thinking about adding in some dried meal worms in about a week to boost the protein. And maybe some small veggies?

The meal worms and very finely chopped dark greens, like spinach and kale, would be good. Also chopped boiled eggs. Feed only enough at a time that they can clean up though, if you add eggs.Be much more careful of mold forming in the feeders as the weather warms. I actually fertilize chick weed for the birds. Even young chicks will devour it.

That sounds like a yummy meal for the chicks!

chick weed is the green grass like algae that grows on top oe the water in ponds right? I do have 2 ponds but no chick weed yet. It grew last year but the chickens didnt like it.

No, Chick weed grows on the ground. It has tiny leaves and equally tiny white flowers. Look it up on Google. You are thinking of Duckweed. Nasty stuff, if it ever gets into your koi ponds.

I have a whole backyard full of that stuff! I fill up two 5 gallon buckets of clover and chick weed for the breeder pens everyday pretty much.

Thanks for the recipe!!
