The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I have a chick that hurt one of her toes, might be broken. She can't put weight on it. I was thinking about taping two toes together with First Aid Waterproof tape. Do I need to splint it somehow? Would the tape help or should I try something else?
Dee I have never had that but I would not tape two toes together due to the structure of the chicken foot. You might be able to splint it with a thick toothpick blunted on the end.
I did have one loose part of a toe before and it made it just fine.

Ho-made chicken shoes might work..

I think it would work if you took a small piece of cardboard and trimmed out a part of the inside.

Than taped it

Thanks Julie and Vicki....now I need to put my Dr's hat on.

Geez, Sat I had my clean-everyone's-vent-area-feathers and dust hat on. My neighbors caught site of my inspecting Max's. She must think I'm insane. Well, I guess I am.

Yup, that's how I spent a beautiful, rainless, day.

That and "trolling for treasures" Saturday.

That's what I call it when I'm scooping out poop from the sand in their pens.

My husband just laughs when he sees me screening the runs every day.He did make me the BEST sifter though.Clean the poop boards, shake up the straw in the coops, then sift the runs. No flies though, and no dirty eggs !

I found a giant dustpan on a stick at Wal-Mart. My clever husband cut out the bottom, and put 1/4" hardware mesh in it. I rake the jewels into the pan, and give it a shake. The sand falls through , and all the poop is put into a bucket for the compost pile. Takes me about 5 minutes a run to clean up , including all the feathers, every day.
