The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

i think that one is going to be an icebreaker..lord, 2 of them are actually massivly wide for that age...i think the thing that stunned me a bit was every egg from her is female.....the brit hen just needs more time being that much younger..will be interesting to see what hers do..when i first had the white baby with them..ihad a devider..but the baby cried so i took it out to see what would happen it kept trying to crawl under the bigger ones and they let it..kept the devider right there but never needed it..at night when i go out to check the 3 big ones sleep right together..and then a tiny white head pops up from the middle..too cute.my australorp almost never tolerate a new one like that..takes a long time..

i have a lot of females this year..not sure why but one of the standard black pullets is massive big..shes tthe biggest pullet ive hatched yet..wasnt expecting that out of mrs softie...but thought , my goodness..so much fun to watch all of this..so glad i can work at home right now and be here all day to fuss if i need to...

Going through that awkward teenage phase:

I was certain that I had only 2 Partridge Girls, but looking at this photo…seems like the 3 in the center could be girls, what do you think?

I love pics of Children with chickens. So cute
I Like the short back on your Black Cock.

Irene your Buffs are really growing and beautiful.
I need to take another pic of mine if I can catch him away from the feeder. He lays down by it and just sits and eats. He is so fluffy and wide.
LOL now don't let him get too fat... don't want him to die of a heart attack

I wont. I am about to move to a larger pen where they can run a long distance. Planning on the move tomorrow if it is not raining. Funny thing about chickens to me. This pair has been with a younger group since they arrived and they still just hang with each other. Birds of a feather flock together for sure. I will try and get some pics if it is not raining when I move. We have VBS all next week at nite so I am going to be limited on time outside before dark when I get home

They do look like girls in the picture.

I do too Julie..what a beautiful farm Gopokes! I took just a few pics this afternoon, its supposed to rain tommorrow so spending some time with the poultry today. I put the baby buffs in a cage to take thier pic....if they are out in thier pen and I take a pic and a little blurr is all I get. A very wide little female..all eggs hatched from this hen are female. they look after the little white new hatch.. pops chunky english girl
Had similar experience with putting a really small one with mine. They won't bother the little ones one bit. And yes, let them snuggle. It's so cute! Another experience I recently had... I have that one chick that is just with it's "momma" with the rest of the flock. The other day I saw that chick leaving it's momma to follow Harry around. And he was caring for it! He's only 7 months. I knew he wouldn't hurt the chick but was flabbergasted that such a young cockerel would actually take care of one like that. They are all beautiful!

Lola and Kay. First two pullets from this year's chicks.

Lola 4 months old.

Butterball. 3 months old. She is from the last hatch this Spring. I think she will be the biggest.
