The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

This is the picture that won me over. This is NOT my bird, nor my Pic. It was posted at the beginning of this thread by Bama and is what lead my to pursue English birds. In my opinion, THIS is what is so good about English Orps. Now if I could ever be so lucky to get one of my blues this round...I would be one happy lady..

Looking at birds like that on this thread is what made me fall in love with the EOs as well. I had easter eggers and rocks in the past just for eggs. But the black EOs have stolen my heart. I just adore that glossy Beetle green on their feathers and those round fluffy butts. If I am going to attempt breeding I intend to breed what I love. That just happens to be EOs.

No self loathing here. I just like the REAL Deal I feel that Americans change breeds of EVERYTHING to make it American. Americans inbreed animals to uselessness and ruin breeds with their lack of care I do not loath America but I guess maybe I loath some individuals that are Americans.

I totally agree. Yeah, look what the AKC has done to cockers, German shepherds, and boxers to start. The quarter horse is a good example, so is the saddle bred. Saddle breds used to be ridden as light Calvary and were a sane gentleman's horse, the ones you see now are barely fit for riding.

I don't know anyone who feels like that. The desire I had to get the imported Orps was strictly because I adore how they look not so I could have something someone else didn't have so I refuse to be put in that box
I simply love , feel awed, by the way they look. It may be hard for you to understand if they don't move you that way. I don't feel they are superior to American Orps and if they move you that way(American orps) I am so happy for you and hope have one just like you like. I felt that way(Awed) about Bearded silkies until I saw the Orpingtons. I still like silkies and I have never seen one in UK pictures that I thought looked like the ones I enjoyed so much over here. . You don't know me and I don't know you so cant we just respect each others difference in preference without lumping folks into categories.

I dont think self loathing quite fits the description of anything here..I think its the quality and personal taste..I personally think there is nothing finer than a great American standard also ..But unfortunately I have quite a few pics from shows all over that are not the greatest examples ..seems there are just so few anymore..and those who have them are not exactly terribly nice to deal with ..doesn't make the viewer or potential buyer have an easy time or pleasant experience....perhaps its a combination of personal taste and the people are so nice to deal with that makes the whole thing so inviting..especially to people who are new.. I agree with Julie ..Its not something that no one else has..its in my case reviving the glory days of say the white orp who at one time enjoyed massive popularity..then later nearly went extinct..from my own personal experience..lets say it was worse than a horrible experience trying to find some..I wont get into personalitlies ..but I found the English owners so pleasant and willing to try to help...don't care to look back at some of the personalities I had to try to deal with nor will I dwell on it..I was willing to spend decent money was treated pretty bad....from my perspective, the standard group seemed very insecure about all of this English invasion..
NYREDS , Im just wondering if you had your heart set on something and had made up your mind to get ready to get into a variety..only to be told, me and my buddies have em and you aint getting em..I thought...good then, you Keep em.. then I did it my way.. Im just wondering how would that feel to you? need to promote not demote..if you devide and conquer instead of heavy promotion..they will be extinct because no one will ever want to deal with what I delt with..

It is always a battle to get top birds. Ask me how I know...I had to make my top winning Silkies off culls. I ran into the same thing with Orps .It was impossible to buy the sort of birds that I had in my mind's eye. So I made them. Half English x Sop Birds. Who cares ?They are all Orps. The judges will decide which ones fit the SOP best.

all i could think of was wonder why they almost became extinct..huh , cant imagine why..they got to be like any endangered animal ..numbers fall to dangerous low levels and to the point where breeds had to be added just to save them...it wasnt so much them not wanting to part with them. respect that...but the i got em and you dont additude doesnt win any fans..

needless to say..when God puts it in your heart to have something he usually provides way better than what you set out for...and he did so...little like a modern day noahs arc..

remembering how i felt and what i went throu..when that boy asked me for those blacks..at first i had to say no..weasles cut me so low that year..just as i was about to walk away..i turned around and said wait..heres my number..call me next spring..i will hatch you some..there was a real nice pair plus in the box ..i could have kept them..but gave them to him..bob just gave him a disasembled barn super nice that he put together for his new birds from minnasota and me..its huge ....and hes happy and this is a thing in his life he will have fond memorys of..and that is all that matters in life..

I don't know what it is about this guy, but he dosent do it for me. I like Thedragonlady's imported roo much better. I guess they have to have some semblance of a neck for me.

I don't have any gripes with American breeders or english ones. We all like what we like. It is a fact that the english type orpingtons are more popular right now. I'm sure it irks some, and makes other's happy but that's just the way things go. I am unhappy about where America took their quarter horses- but there is nothing I can do about it.

I personally like the imported look over the American SOP look.

christabelle..i have laughed for half hour over the neck part..i think hes just darling..theres just so much of him ..the neck got lost for a minute in the the rest of his big self...that was too funny..

This is the sort of SOP Buff Orp I'm getting from using English cock birds.She fits both standards quite well.She now belongs to a friend of mine Here is her English sire, Max, full brother to Monty. He is about 10 months old here.

very nice buffs Dragon Lady, that particular color and type are on my want list. I have always liked the buffs but want the imports, I would like to have chocs, crele. jubilee and spangled. one of these years I might be able to afford some, be a while, but for now I am happy with my BBS,
