The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

There are a couple people who are breeding blue cuckoo but I am not one of them although the genetics are quite simple.  A black cuckoo rooster over a blue hen.  Blue genetics would be in place here so you would get both blue and black, and unless the rooster is double barred you would get solid and cuckoo chicks.
Hope this information helps. :)

You can fine the Cuckoo information here http://www.thefancychick.com/CuckooOrpington.html  and the blue genetic info here http://www.thefancychick.com/ImportedBlueOrpingtons.html

@rockinpaints I was hesitant to even state who I was told the adult parent birds were from, Lol. Once another breeder gets a hold of them they become their own lines, as we know. So I don't want you to feel like I was stating these were your lines lol. LOVE your birds by the way. :)

My main question is in the fact that the rooster was split to chocolate and the hen was blue. Both parents are cuckoo. So are all the chicks half split to chocolate and half blue then?

I think I'm going cuckoo trying to figure this out.

Thank you for clearing that up. They can't be split to blue, they are either blue or not. Only the cockerels can be split to chocolate and I don't think that would work with blue just black. When chocolate is bred to black you will get some splits. When splits are bred to blue I don't think the chicks would be split to chocolate anymore, I think you would end up with a dilute like dun? I'm not really sure.

JEREMY where are you!

He is the "go to Man" for genetics. Good luck.

Is it possible that a red English Arlington could have lightly feathered shanks

Red Orpington, yes, it is common to see some of the imported English Orpingtons with light feathered shanks. The Reds and the Partridge were the worst to have feathers. It is not desirable and I guess I would not use any with feather shanks for breeding.

Since this is my very first time raising Jubilee Orpingtons I have nothing to compare them to other than my Blues and I know that is not fair because the Jubilees are a lot newer color than blues and have just not been worked with enough here in the states to get them up to size.
This rooster is standing under an 18 in. tall roost is he the average size of Jubilees here in the states or is he a lot smaller? Any help will be appreciated! Thanks so much

How old is he? There were a couple lines imported and I remember one line being on the smaller side. I only see little spur nubbins so I am assuming he is about 8 months old? If so he will grow till he is about 18 months old. I think you will be surprised how much more he will grow. He is a pretty boy.

Wow..they keep on growing that long? My trio was just hatched last August (I got from someone) and they are already big! That's really interesting to know and plan an even bigger space for them.
