The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

OK so here's our mystery blue orp from Oopsie. (Oopsie is a mauve orp hatched from a friend's eggs, so a diff line.)

It's now 5.5 weeks.
Sometimes I think, "Darn another cockerel!"
Other times I think, " She's such a pretty girl!"

Those wattles are way too pink for my liking, but the comb is so tiny. Mine always have huge headgear by 4-5 weeks, and this chick has barely a bump. I have no idea its gender.

I really hope I don't have to wait until it lays an egg or crows!

Any guesses?

I feel the same way about my 4 week old SEO, so I'm really curious to see what yours turns out to be!

I'm leaning toward boy for your chick.

The comb is not too large, but the feathering is very sparse for a 4wk old. Of course I've been fooled before, so I certainly wouldn't give up hope. It's always best to wait until your sure of gender before making any long term decisions.

Mocha's twin broody is holding her own with all 21 chicks!

I went out there tonight & saw this:

How does Cookie keep track of them all?

Thank you for your thoughts! ...but

I was afraid you's say that^^^
So you mean wait for the egg (since I've read some pullets do try to crowing) or is there some other way to identify gender?

You won't have to wait that long. In 1-4 weeks you should know for sure. Especially since you have others to compare

Here are 2 of my lav orps at 5-6 weeks. See how the male has the headgear & those pink wattles hanging down? Even with a blurry pic taken from a distance, one can tell he's a male. The female had nothing.
