The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Sounds like y'all had a busy weekend! I worked in the yard all day Saturday and spent Sunday lying on the couch feeling like death. I'm better this morning I suppose since I'm at work, but I could do with about a week off. lol

I tried to track down some chicks this weekend to no avail. I'll try calling a few more people after work to see if I can find anything. For now little bit isn't too loud, but boy is terrified of me. It runs screaming to its stuffed animals the minute I peek into the tub to check on it.

Blue Orpington pullet that I’m really excited to see once she’s fully mature:)
Her mom was an American black Orp, and her daddy is a splash Eng orp.

she’s still VERY young, but I’m hoping that she turns out to be a great hen!:)

I found babies about an hour away that were hatching yesterday. I'm going to pick six up on Sunday. The breeder has all Greenfire Farms lines and literally every variety of English Orpington you can imagine. He spent over $10,000 with them and they flew him out to their farm as a thank you. Anyway his SLO are molting and not laying well, but he feels sure he would have enough babies. If not he'd fill with Chocolate, Blue, Splash, or Lavender depending on what I wanted. He normally only sells adult birds, but since I had a single he told me he would make an exception. :) He's going to send me a price list this morning.

That's great news and a wonderful way to add some more quality orps!

You're such a lucky duck! I'm glad your little sweetie will finally get some friends. He will be so happy lol. I just realized Greenfire farms is not all that far from me. I am near Jacksonville FL so google says its about 2 1/2 hrs west of me lol.

Hmmm I dont even see English Orps listed on their website. Are they not selling them anymore?:idunno

Awww. It looks like he's claimed Blizzard as his gal. What a good boy!

I'm sure Blizzard will be the top hen in your new laced orp flock. (She & Crystal were the laced co-leaders here, but in general, the laced gals are lower in status than the giant lav & blacks.) I was glad to hear that she comforted Crystal's chicks. My flock has always been pretty accepting of chicks. Although they're 10 wks old, those Sept chicks still sleep with their mamas. Now that I think about it, Cookie's August chicks are also hanging back near her. Perhaps the weather is telling them there's no rush to let their babies grow up and return to egg-laying.

This is what I find every night.....

Crystal & her 10 week old chicks STUFFED into one nest box. So, I pull them out & place them up on the roost. (Thankfully, there's only 2 orp chicks left. BTW- While these two are still sleeping with mama, their serama "sibling" / hatch-mate is already fully integrated into the bantam coop & crowing!)

I'm so jealous of the green grass in those pictures even if there was snow a few pages back. My grass is brown now.

I'm still waiting on the availability/price list from the Orpington breeder. But He did text me this morning to apologize and said he'd get it to me when he got home. :)
