Well it's 8:10 AM PST, our PO opened at 8:00 AM and I still haven't heard anything yet... my brooder is set up and ready, I've had the lamp on warming since 6 AM this morning, fretting the entire time. I've never been this anxious over the arrival of chicks ever!

I think I'm going to go ahead and give the PO a call.

Jeremy - I sent you an e-mail with an update. I've been on pins and needles waiting. I have talked to Postmistress here at my PO several times today and she had been keeping an eye on their progress. She called your PO about 15 or 20 minutes ago and talked to the lady there, who told her they were expecting an Express Delivery truck in at 9AM (your time) and she hoped that the chicks would be on that truck. She said that she was aware to call you as soon as they arrived. Hopefully, they will be on that 9AM truck.

Joy, you are probably one of the kindest hearts I know! I did give my PO a call and it doesn't sound as if I got nearly the customer service you did...

"Your name?"

"Your address?"

"Nope, nothing yet."

...

But that's okay. I just went out and did a second feed a fill for all the older chickens (I've been up since early this morning) to try and get my mind off of it. 9:00 AM is only 15 minutes from now, so I'm gonna go get ready and hope that they're on that truck! Thank you so much Joy!

Awwwwww, shucks. Thanks Jeremy !! That is really sweet of you to say.

The Postmistress here is just wonderful !! WHen I first called this morning, she had already been checking on the chicks all morning. She said "I wanted to check to see where our babies were." This is a very small PO...tiny building and only 25 PO boxes. LOL. Kim, the postmistress is a true gem !! Kim told me that she would call me if she received more information. I also talked to her about getting the protocol for egg handling changed. She is going to make a few calls and see what she can find out. I told her if she could get me a name, maybe a bunch of us here could write en masse and ask for changes in how they handle egg packages and faster delivery. Hopefully, she'll find out something.

Anyway....you keep me posted about those babies and let me know as soon as you get them.

My Post Office is larger than yours, Joy, but the employees are just wonderful here. A couple of my packages of eggs were received attached to one of those big plastic boxes they use in sorting mail (with handles), to keep them safer. I don't know which PO did that, but it sure was nice of them to give the extra effort.

That was VERY nice Kathy !! Unfortunately, I"m sure that extra care is few and far between. You would think with all the business the PO has lost over the last how many years, they would do more to make sure to keep what customers they have. I don't know how hard it would be to have a certain colored box for EXTREMELY fragile things and treat them with some finesse and gentle handling. I don't think it would be that hard myself. I told Kim, the postmistress, that I"m sure that most people wouldn't mind to pay a bit extra to ensure gentle handling and faster delivery for their egg packages. I hope she is able to get a name.
