The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Thank you Kathy!

We're working on a reconstructing their coop this weekend so it'll be slightly bigger. I'm worried about just how large they are going to become.

If mine are anything to judge by. BIG! My roos are not even a year old and they are as wide as they are tall. I would say about 18-20 inches.

Thanks Kathy. This is the first time I have experienced it too and it really took me completely by surprise. I figured it was him trying to establish dominance. I just backed him into a corner (twice). The second time he did his little dance, I backed him into a corner and then followed him around making him move where I wanted him to (if that made sense?). This morning, he came right on out of the coop and didn't pay any attention to me at all. We'll see. Silly bird.

Thanks Tonya. We need updated pictures of your boys.

Nava - Are you sure he is from Charlie? He does look more American than English - but he is nice big boy either way !!

I have to apologize. I took WAY too many pictures... My little flock is FOUR months old!!!! Please overlook the construction. We are adding a front porch to the coop.

I've got to start letting some of my roos go, but CAN'T. I love them all. I have three blue and three black.

Blue Roos:
Pierre... the king of the coop... (From Julie)

Blue (From Joy)

Blue thought he might have a chance to overthrow the king... but was smart enough not to follow through.

Thor... (From Julie) To truly appreciate Thor, you have to know that he ALWAYS has a dirty face and his comb looks all twisted like he couldn't be bothered to straighten it. My little Pig Pen.

MoMo, who finally lost his giant tail feathers so he doesn't look all gawky, he just looks all stubby now.

Group Shots:
If you look closely you can see the pullet on the right has a slice of ham in her mouth. And the chase is ON...

I am having a blast with these guys. Luckily we are all still living in harmony. Hope it lasts a little while longer...

My husband said he was going to sew a comb onto the hood of my chicken coop jacket and see what happens

Whatever you do. Do not wear that jacket while taking photos!

Nice looking flock tennesseeckn!

Daphne - Love the pictures !! The ham picture is a hoot. I have one somewhere where one of mine had a persimmon and they were all chasing her. It reminded me of those sea gulls on "Finding Nemo" screeching "Mine, mine, mine." LOL.

I LOVE Thor. I love his face. He is so cute. I like how Blue looks right now too. And you look to have some really NICE black pullets growing out there; the last black girl looks really great so far...kinda reminds me of The O's when they were younger. I'll see if I can find a picture of them at 4 months old for comparison.

And thank you for the idea of just how big they may become, I'm also trying to figure out how high off the ground to place their roosts, I know these guys are gonna get pretty heavy so I don't want them to have to strain to get up at night.
