A question regarding AI.

Would we only be able to receive semen of colors that are "closely related" to Black?

Like all of the recessives, Lavender, Blue, Splash and Chocolate? I know the mottling gene works similarly with Black, where you produce splits with one copy, so would Mottled, Diamond Jubilee and Jubilee be a possibility as well?

What about the other colors though? If we AI-ed a Blue hen with Buff semen, wouldn't it produce "mutts"?

I hope my rambling makes sense to someone.

Yes, it makes sense to me Jeremy, and in my excitement I didn't consider that.

I mean, there still could potentiallly be 7 new colors (Lav, Blue, Splash, Choc, Mott, DJube and Jube) in the US, plus others I could just be unaware of that can work with Black. But what about Buff, Crele, Red, Wheaten, White, Cuckoo (I actually think Cuckoo could be one of the colors that can work with Black) Gold Laced, Silver Laced, Blue Laced Red?

Of course I'm probably getting waaay ahead of myself in thinking, but I feel like it's something we should consider.

Well... think about it... We have at least two serious bird importers that I know about. Smart to buy a pair or trio at least... then buy the AI semen to expand from there. Once the different types are producing... WE can buy eggs/chicks from each other...

This is the way it works.... A person can contact a frozen sperm bank and pay to have the straws(frozen pellets) kept in storage for yrs...It isn't that much money either... not really when you think what is at stake.

I already have pure blues and blacks, and with Julie's we have a couple of lines already - but I would really LOVE to have another line. I also would kill for some Crele, so not sure about that part. Needs further investigating for sure.

I like Cassius. I will gladly be the only one who is in his line for some of his sperm. IF I was the owner of Cassius, I would not let one egg leave me property. He is a one in a million. Hatch them all Power!
