Paul - that is a great photo. I'm going to post a picture here of a bantum OEG chick that we had several years ago...the similarity is funny. This little chick was 3 days old in the pictures

I need advise on this chick. Could be an Australorp or Orpington. Definately brown in color. Has anyone else had this color before? Don't know whether this is the rare choc gene that has popped up. But this chick has a dark rich colored head, the brown is lighter in the body but that could be from the chick fuzz. brown beak and very dark legs, darker then the blue chicks. It is two weeks old and either a black aus hen/blk orp roo or splash orp hen/black roo. Very very off chance that it could be a speckled sussex hen/black orp roo. I have some of the sussex/orp crosses and this chick is much bigger then they were at that age.
Any ideas???

D Farm, I wish I could help you out but I have no clue. From the close up pic you showed my guess would be cross with SS as their seems to be a variation in color on the tips

Definate variation on the tips, but the sussex/orp crosses that I have don't have this chicks size, they all have the light eye, and much more white in them, but they were a blue orp roo/speckled sussex cross. I now have two gorgeous blue sussex pullets and 3 funky black/red looking cockerals. I guess I will have to wait and see. I do hope it's a girl I'll just add it to my layer flock.
