The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

LOL! They were settling down for the night!! Bob used to sleep with all 3 hens in a pile of feathers in there!

I just love that picture, Jeremy!

Yeah, my birds are so special ..... so special that they refuse to be mussed up by a roo, and refuse to give me fertile eggs!

I have seen those boys in action .... errrr, attempted action! Those girls just refuse to be mated!

I guess I should just be grateful they are at least giving me eggs!

Two more eggs into lockdown last night... Hoping they both pull thru. That would give me 5 so far.

He seems to prefer my English hen to the American, hmmmm.

I have 46 eggs in the bator now with various dates to come out into the hatcher. I also have 18 more to set. I am soooooooooo hoping that some of these are fertile !!!

I am both soooo excited.........and so disappointed to find this thread!!!!

Two weeks ago, I took my niece to our local zoo (Lowry Park Zoo) and scattered throughout the zoo - and in the petting area - they had these huge, round birds - like something out of the Baroque era. Beautiful, large feathery beauties.

I knew right away they were Buff Orps (the zoo keeps them and guineas to help keep insects/pests under control).........unlike the Orps I have (from a hatchery).

I thought - no problem! I'll find some on BYC and hatch some or buy some.

Sooooooo.......I'm thrilled to find this thread - but disappointed to assess (after reading the first 500 posts plus the most recent 100 posts) that the only ones that seem to be available are BBS - which are GORGEOUS - but not what I had my heart set on.

Does anyone have any advice on resources, or are they simply not available?

Thanks for your time!!!

Joy and Kathy, this is another one of my favorites from when Edmund was just a we one.

Kelly G, as far as I know, nobody has imported English Buff Orps.

Why don't you check with the zoo and see where they got their birds?
