Ya know, I was just reading through the SOP book. You all probably already know this, but I found the section under, "cutting for defects," that says:
Body and Fluff:
(a) Orpington
1. Fluff within two inches or less of ground .... 1 to 2

SOOOOOO, additional fluff is ONLY 1-2 point deduction. Hmmmm, I didn't realize that.

Katy- I trimmed butts today. I didn't even bother with checking fertility.

Sandy- Soon you will be getting eggs. And then trimming butts.

Kathy- good information to have for those who show.

On Monday a dog got into my yard and got most of my free ranging layer flock. Luckily I had recently separated breeds and my Orps were penned. However, yesterday morning I found more feathers in the yard and Frost (my 3/4 Charlie roo) is missing. I tracked down the owners of the dog and advised them that the dog would be gone if I see him near my property again.

Took a few pics of Prince and his girls this afternoon. Prince is a very good color. His tail is not perfect but I have shown him and he did well. I think he is a great breeder bird . His chest is huge.

Kathy - Don't crack them, just chunk them in that bator. Don't waste a one. And thanks for the info on the fluff deduction.

Julie - I think Prince is gorgeous. I like his tail - it may not be perfect, but I really like it. And I love his color. I will be really happy when you send me a "Charlie" rooster with that gorgeous blue color.

OK. I think this picture works. It was harder than I thought it would be to catch two girls that were at different stages of development in the same picture in such a way that you can see their size.

Tell me what you think. The girl in the foreground is laying and is smaller and redder. The girl directly behind her is bigger and looks like she's not laying any time soon. That's Blue in the picture, too. He's a Joy-boy and I'm keeping him. I'm thinking of good English names for him. I'd like to start with the letter A.

This is Pierre (who also needs a nice, English, A-name) I'm keeping him, too. He's a Julie-boy. He's a nice, laced blue. This picture is a little dark, since we are in the shade.

Julie, for those of us newbies, what don't you like about Prince's tail? I think it's beautiful. I know nada about showing, though...
