ever the way with splash here too, get them when its a small hatch, or boy heavy. Have a couple of sweet youngsters, but one is looking rather quiet for my liking, wish the weather would warm up here.

We are plenty warm. Wish we could send some warm your way.

Bama, I've really got to buy the standards book. I thought Champ's comb was awesome.

I had no shot of splash this year with all black pullets, but I was hoping for more blue girls to work with next spring. I have some pretty black girls growing out though. I'll have to get pictures...

Well, I did show Champ. He is showable. I just like a little different look. But still you are right it is a good comb. Not to big, not to many points and straight.

I am a perfectionest

Julie, Champ looks just about perfect to me! I can't get over his shape, he is so round! I would love to get some Blacks and Blues from him if you're still using him for breeding in the fall.

I'm very excited about getting babies from my bunch too. Most of my juvies will be moved to the big chickens area in the next month or so and then I'll have space for new babies to grow out again.

I plan on setting eggs as we get more into July.

tennesseeckn, bring on the pictures!

6chicks&aduck :

These birds are so beautiful , they look like clean legged cochins in a way lol

Eh, if you look at a Cochin's type and shape you will see that they're two very different breeds. Orps don't have the "bunny tail" that Cochins do.

This is a Buff Cochin, the shape is entirely different.

Great pictures everybody !!! Can't wait to see all the chicks from them.

6chicks&aduck - My English Orps look absolutely nothing like a cochin. Mine look like big, gorgeous, magnificent Orpingtons.

Roger - Though the comb is small, the wattles, tail and feet scream cockerel to me.

Question for Orpington experts.

I have a 9 month old Buff Orpington. She is the sweetest thing in the world and I just lover her.

But she really wears her emotions right on her face. Her face and ear lobs go from being really bright red, to quite pale when she's stressed or not happy. Is this normal? And I'm talking about moment to moment. She obviously not old enough to molt.

Her comb and wattles always stay bright red.

For example, it was hot yesterday and when I came home, her face and ear lobs were quite pale. She was panting and had her wings open. I gave her some chilled fruit and wet down the shady part of their run for all her sisters.

When I came back several hours later, the fog has started to roll in and the temperature was down 20 degrees and she was bright red again.

I had an issue for a while where the EE was pecking at her when I gave them treats. I bought a spray bottle and nipped that bad behavior in the bud. But again, she would turn pale and come stand by my feet. So I'd scoop her up and take her into the house and give her a handful of mealworms out of the tub in the fridge. And again, she'd turn red again.

My other hens (who are not Orpingtons) don't do this. So I'm curious what you notice.
