Sounds like a plan... I will fire up the grill for us

I witnessed the funniest site ever yesterday. I keep the newly hatched unit right next to my comp so I can keep an eye everyone. There were 2 chicks in it at the time and a winged bug just happend to follow me in the door because it was attracted to the front porch light... any who... that unfortunate bug fell through the wire of the chick unit and was quickly nabbed by the smaller chick. She thought she just had to find a place to hide to admire her prize... WELL... the race was on when the bigger chick caught site of the bug. She quickly ran the little girl down and took the bug away... with the little chick in hot pursuit.. She would Jump up and down... flap her wings.... scream... scream scream... then they were off and running again. The larger one did managed to consume it to the little ones dismay

I NOW believe I know... how the game of football was invented.

I think you're right! I think soccer and basketball could find their roots there, too.

OK, Orp experts. I might be being a tad optimistic, but is it possible my little girl is a dark, dark shade of blue? She's lighter than any of the blacks and she's not shiny or iridescent. I really prefer the lighter blues, but if she IS blue, then she just doubled my shot at hatching a splash in the spring.

Took some pictures yesterday of the GL babies and got a decent shot of Winston and one of Minerva dust bathing, so thought I'd post. The GL are right at 2.5 months here. They are starting to get some decent lacing and also starting to get some gold on their heads and chest.

She is a dark blue, you can see the lacing setting in. Blacks never have lacing.

I agree she is a dark blue.

Joy those GL are soo pretty! It will be interesting to watch them unfold. I am very interested in the correct feet and eye color. Has anyone made a determination as to what would be the correct color?

Irene, most of the varieties have dark brown or brown eyes. On the leg color that is a good question. Most of the pictures I have seen from overseas have had white legs like the buff. Corancher here on BYC has been making her own and from the older pictures I have seen they had light legs and dark legs.

Maybe we should ask her how her project has turned out and what has been her results. In the end, if the bird is to be recognized it would be up to the UOC to finalize the description, but before that would happen the breeders would have to get together to make sure they are all breeding towards a common goal.

I was thinking the same thing

Personally I like the darker legs.....

I know why the buffs and whites have light legs, as it is a real problem in ameraucanas, but I would think with all the pigment a gold laced is carrying, the legs would come out black.

Maybe there are some genes in there that I don't know about that are decreasing the dermal melanins. (Hope I spelled that right.) Maybe we should ask one of the genetics gurus about it.

ETA: Sent a message to tadkerson, the genetics guru.
