Looking good Jeremy!!

Thanks Richard, they're growing like weeds. I can hardly wait to see how they mature over the next few months.

Any updated pics of your Chocs?

Just what I was going to say! Based on that only I would say you got a really great selection of boys.

I do hope I have a Blue cockerel in the bunch, who has good light ground color. That and I would like to use him to make some Blacks next year.

Sounds like a plan.

I'll be in Vegas this weekend. How successful do you think I'd be smuggling the little guy back on the flight?

I just lost my black English Orp cockeral this afternoon. He was from trio that I got from Joy earlier this summer.
I'm just totally devastated right now!
He has not been ill, was fine all day today when I was out there but late this afternoon when we went to feed/change waters he went up to sit on the water blocks as usual but looked funny in his eyes when I looked at him. I picked him up and sat him down to see what he'd do and he walked normally around the coop but then came and nestled down by my feet. He's always been very docile and friendly like that though. I picked him up again and he looked like he was having a seizure, then just died!!! Never gasped or coughed. No marks on him, no runny nose, no runny eyes, no lameness. I'm at a total loss as what could have happened to him.
The girls were just looking everywhere for him when I went to check on them just before dark

.

Any ideas on what could have made him do this?

Their Flock Raiser is changed every other day, water changed daily unless it's hotter than 90, then AM & PM.
Free choice grit.
Oyster shell for the girls.
5 way scratch

Coop picked daily and fresh pine shavings added when needed.

Searching for answers I guess. Thanks for listening.

I'm very sorry that you lost your boy.

How hot is it there, could the heat have gotten to him?

Are you able to send his body in for a necropsy?

Thank you.

It was only in 80's today, that's what's so weird. He did fine in the 98+ heat wave we had for almost 3 weeks and it's cooler and he dies.
He wasn't panting or looking distressed at all. Just looked like he wasn't as chipper when I looked at him with the others.
I didn't even think about sending him off for necropsy. He's in our outside freezer. We usually make our pets a little "coffin" and bury them up on the hillside so I put him in the freezer til I could get that done.

I'll definitely watch the girls though and if any of those do the same thing, will know to send off instead. Thanks for that question/reminder.

If he has been refrigerated he can still be sent to a lab, if you're concerned about disease, etc. I would look into it still.

I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best for your girls.
