I am new to owning byc, I ordered some buff and white orpingtonsfrom a Hatchery last March. Is there a differance between the English Orpingtons and the ones I got from the hatchery? I have been looking at all the photos and it seems that English may be puffier. Mine are now 11weeks

There is a big difference to the practiced eye between an orpington from any hatchery and these English birds. In fact there's a big difference between them and an American APA bird, too. But hatchery birds are perfect for people just getting into chickens. They're still a wonderful breed no matter where you get them from.

These are three different sets of chicks. The first two don't have the partridge pattern on their backs.

Sorry I put my quote on the wrong post and don't know how to delete. This is the original post. I got 3 girls from Richard and I am trying to find a roo Imported Chocolate Orpington for them. The owner of this bird in the pic that it was a boy but, I am thinking girl. I posted this once before but, I only got one guess. Does anyone else have an opinion.

Do you know if this is a boy or a girl?

My guess is boy. It's getting too red around the comb and face for a girl. But they can fool you.

Yes there is a big difference... Keep looking at the pictures and they are TERRIBLY Addicting! lol

The only hatchery with White Orpington chicks claim to have a pure line back to 1930ish. I have seen their adult stock. A friend bought and raised some. They are closer to being a Leghorn in type than an Orpington.

Compare the three types below. Hatchery, American SOP and Imported.
