The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

What kind and size of leg bands would you use on EO ? I have two different line's that Id like to keep a eye on yet let them run together for awhile until they grow up. Right now one group is 2 1/2 months old and the other is 1 month old maybe a little older.
Thanks
I have a bag full of different sizes.... ordered them from Cutler Supply. They grow out of them soo dang fast... Some of my adults are wearing >>16<< expandable plastic leg bands.

You might be better off.. just using zip ties... PLEASE make sure you check them often so they aren't allowed to get too tight. The bands do come in different colors.

Yup, that's Splash. I have a few just like it.

Actually, the color has very little to do with Orpingtons. Splash is the same in all breeds. Its now a SOP accepted variety in several breeds and rumor has it it may be in even more in the next few years. Anyone who has raised Blues for 5 years can assist in getting the Splash accepted. The Splash Modern Game Bantams are so cute and tiny. I do think the Splash large fowl Orpington is extremely beautiful. We also have Splash in Orpington Bantam.

Okay, I thought this was a splash (color)...is it? I really don't know, I am too new to orpingtons. It is a beautiful baby....I am just curious.

Bob Blosl brought this up on the Heritage thread. The Cornell Online Library Poultry books. I know we have seen this before, but maybe some of the newbies have not. Hope everyone enjoys reading it.

I have 1 that just like yours. She doesn't a lot of darker feathers either. At one point I called mine the splash that didn't splash. Now that she has 1 darker feather, I called her my dinky splash.

I won't be keeping my splash...I have limited space so I am focusing on my blacks. But she is so pretty. I love the blue hue of them. I did not realize that the "splash" was not a recognized color at this point with orps....am I understanding that correctly?
