Guess what I just got?!

My first chocolate babies! Eggs from LF Black Orps, sired by Mr. Chocolate.
The chocolate gene is sex linked. Brown chicks = female. Black chicks = male (carrying the choc gene)

I want some!! I want some!!

I'd settle for some chocolate bantam eggs, even!

Please...........

Down to TWO Silkies to rehome so I can get my blue/black/maybe splash and chocolate coops going. I have room for babies!!

Didn't know if you were asking me or the other gal but yes mine did come from our friend. I hatched four . I choc pullet and 1 choc male and the other are black females not carrying the gene.

I recently bought some Lemon Cuckoo and Lavender (Self Blue) eggs at auction. The dozen (6/6) closed at $9.14 plus $12 S/H. When the eggs arrived they were UPSIDE DOWN in the carton. Some were broken. the eggs were shipped in a free Priority Mail shoe carton. The eggs were not individually wrapped, but had a strip of bubble wrap under and on top of the eggs. I tried communicating with the seller, but got nowhere. eBay refunded our total cost.

The air cells are detached, but we set the remaining eggs. If we get chicks I plan on sending the money back. My intention was to bump the listing, but won at the low price. If we did not like the hatched birds, we could have sold them as layers etc later.

Only once has anyone claimed my eggs broke, and we never received photos of the actual broken eggs.

Should I have been upset with the eggs being shipped UPSIDE DOWN?

Here are photos of the carton, at our Post office.

ETA: I fully understand what the USPS can do to hatching eggs. Have recieved many broken eggs over the years. Broken is understandable. UPSIDE DOWN is not!

If i receve eggs like this ,i wont put in my incubator hope they from npip seller and you don't bring any diseases in you flocks.
So dirty i can picture how he/she keep the birds, looks like they just for money maker don't care the birds.
Hope you do well with out any problem.

That's always a bummer on the blacks that don't carry the color.

I've had lots of extra bantam black birds here from my ameraucana project that have hatched and you can't tell if they carry chocolate or not. Since no one around here is that much interested in bantam chickens I've had to cull a lot of them...

I hope they grow out nice for you!!!

Question --

We have two coops with attached, enclosed runs. They'll be empty of chickens quite soon and ready for our incoming English Orps (well, some chicks with some hatching eggs coming soon, I hope!). These coop/runs housed a Light Sussex roo with 10 of his LF ladies at the most.

How many English Orps would be the maximum for that coop, do you think? I know the English Orps are big (love the pic with the pygmy goats for comparison!), so I wanted to make sure before we start.

I use the same size coops I use for my other birds, but maybe have 2 less birds in them because of less perch space.
And lower your top perches if there is a chance your roo's will be close to the ceiling in winter. We just have tin and I cringe thinking about that "tongue on the flag poll" from Christmas Story. .

Mine only go in the coops to lay or at night though, as they free range all day.

Keep fingers crossed for us. Our eggs go on lockdown today. Our first attempt at 100% English BBS. Our last batch of shipped eggs only had 1 hatch so tried something I read about waiting a week before starting the turner to let shipped eggs settle. Hoping that works out. If not I will be in the market one last time for eggs or anyone shipping day old birds. I am determined to get some 100% English stock.
