So these are my chocolate babies...but my husband is starting to grumble. I promised 3 breeds and this would be four - Black Coppers, Cream Legbars, Jubilees and these...so we'll see if I get to keep them. I do have a question on coops for these. How high off the ground is too high and how high do I put the roosts? What about the Jubilees? If they cannot fly then how high do I need to make their roosts? These UK chocolates are really beautiful looking close up. One female is a week or two older and so fluffed out on the bottom that all you can see is her little legs sticking out from underneath her. I made a new pen for them and had to rake out all those large sticks - we are clearing out some land in the back off the house that reaches to a pond we have...my husband does not know it yet but I see ducks in his future.

I have 3 girls and 1 boy - they are soooooo cute and like little balls of fluff. They are not to friendly yet but I am working on them but they sure are curious little buggers.

No, you only have three breeds; orpingtons, marans and legbars. You have two varieties of orpingtons.

those are just the best looking bantams orps ever...look at the little barred ones in there! when they grow up (ha) they still look like a true orpington..they did a beautiful job on these birds..I fell in love with Kathys chocolates..

I have a big rooster that sleeps in a hay pile on the ground, and an australorp rooster that prefers to ground sleep..I just make a big pile for them..the bigger orps can break a leg by jumping down from too far..not sure about these little bantams..I have lower roosts set up but the 2 roosters wont use them..

Blackbirds: 3 breeds or not, you are stepping on your husbands toes and must send those chocolate babies directly over to me. Post Haste. I really have only YOUR best interest in mind here.

Bachelors number 1 and 2 together: I was under the happy suspicion that bachelor number 2 (on the right) was a pullet this morning, call it wishful thinking. Perhaps sleep deprivation. But after more studying, the size of the hoofers on that one lead me to believe it is a roo, or perhaps one big legged woman.

They do look like boys (well I'm not sure about the middle one) but I'll tell you, I can't go by leg size on Orps. All my chicks have had some monster legs, girls too.

This may be a dumb question... I am sorry if it is.

Is there any English type bantam Orp breeders - other than the rare colors. I am looking into (not saying I want them yet) blacks and blues (I love the lacing on the English Orp blues). I have discovered I prefer small chickens over the big ones. I love English LF and I may get some eventually, but I'd rather start with a couple bantams for my chocolate boys.

I was trying to find English Orp eggs that could be shipped tomorrow (LF), that's why I was asking... Struck out again! I don't see many bantam Orp eggs in general - another reason I asked. Instead, more bantam Cochins and cuckoo Marans to make the OH happy.

What do you mean by "English Type"?? There are a couple of people here in the US that have recently imported other bantam orp colors other than chocolate but do not think they are releasing them yet. There are some American bantam orps that do have more fluff and English type than others, I see that in my own barn!
