It happened to me last summer when I had some cocci survivors. I put them on game starter to up their protein and get some weight on.
It did the trick, but I had one pullet suddenly couldn't walk and was flopping around. I switched them all to layer crumble and the water-soluble vitamins, and within 2 days she was fine. Very scary though, but a good lesson. I have since seen it happen to other people too.
Once my chicks are feathered in enough to go in an outside brooder, I take them all off the med feed. I would rather have them build up their immunity naturally. Never had any issues once they are out there.
Really though- I don't think anything works better than letting a broody hatch them out.
