The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

It happened to me last summer when I had some cocci survivors. I put them on game starter to up their protein and get some weight on.
It did the trick, but I had one pullet suddenly couldn't walk and was flopping around. I switched them all to layer crumble and the water-soluble vitamins, and within 2 days she was fine. Very scary though, but a good lesson. I have since seen it happen to other people too.

Once my chicks are feathered in enough to go in an outside brooder, I take them all off the med feed. I would rather have them build up their immunity naturally. Never had any issues once they are out there.
Really though- I don't think anything works better than letting a broody hatch them out.

Staring at the hatcher doesn't seem to be helping.

...........I know horses and dogs, not a clue about roos.........I watched the video on the bantam collection. It was very good, just doesn't work quite the same on the these 12 pounders............I am working on DH to help me. He is still showing some resistance though

Here is a short video I made. Not the best, but it gives you the idea of how to collect the semen.

thats very good vid walt..you should make more..it helps a lot of people..its not easy with these giant birds and my austraoorp rooster was nasty biting mean..but no problems with the rest..you should show the hen part..slightly easier..its a bit of a trick with the big fluffy ones thou you would probably find it easier..im a newbi at it the vet had done it so many times , it was nothing for her...but i found it a little hard beings the bird was so big..

Walt that was a great video... you sure make it look easy.... I am going to try that just to see if I can do it. I have a couple of pretty tame roos that might not object ")
