The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Julie,
the medishippers are used for perishable items in hospitals...they are perfect for hatching eggs ..the walls in some shippers are almost 4" thick..it protects eggs from severe temp changes, and so protective that eggs have a 100% chance of arriving safe and sound to your house ..the inside of the medishipper will be same temp when it arrives then when it left breeders hands...for some reason they are cheaper to send full than standard post office box..super light weight ..they are not very big but lot of eggs can be packaged if bubble wrapped see wrapping hatching eggs for shipment., one freind uses sawdust to tuck eggs in all bubble wrapped...it works perfect..air cells from air pressure will be slightly loose but not as bad as usuall.

if you know anyone who works in a hospital or clinic, you can have them save them for you..bariatric centers, act clinics or walk in clinics, pediatrics, they are used to keep packaged vaccines correct temp and protect from any possible damage..the vaccines never opened in shippers they are removed packaged and refrigerated.a lot are for insulin.you can run an advertisement on hospital web site . or ask a freind that works there to save them for you..they come in different sizes.these medishippers are thrown away so they will probably be more than happy to give them to you..

i have a pile to be sent down to a good freind, just need a minute to do that..my back room is getting full of them..housekeeping staff hand them to me from all over the hospital..once they know you want them..people are pretty nice about it..its a win win, we needed a safe transport for eggs, and they need to get rid of them.so please put up requests for them.hospital staff is saved from a trip to the dumpster.
Hi there Lynn. Thanks for that info. I have some contacts at both the Hospitals here. I dont work as a Nurse anymore but have lots of friends there.
Sounds perfect for shippingl

I finally got some pictures this morning.

This is Muffin, short for "Fluff Muffin". Bought him from Marc last year. He is right at a year old now.

And this is Dafney. She is 5 months old.

Love that Cockerel. Blue girl is mighty pretty. Thanks for sharing your pics

And the SOP birds will have tail feathers.

Walt
Aw Walt, just for you I went up into the nether regions of my attic to dig out a show coop and floor.I promise that as soon as the temps drop below 90 degrees, I'll post some photos of tails on my young English Os.That black K certainly has tail feathers. The English Os DO develop them later than SOP birds. That's why they never go through the stringy stage that some US orps do, who grow long tails before there are any coverts.I am constantly amazed at the different growth patterns, not only between the US and EOs, but amongst US lines, of which I have 4. Fun to watch though, and they seem to be getting to the same shape, just at different ages. It takes longer to cull this way in letting them grow up to a year, but I think it is worth it. Guess I'll have to bribe you down here to see with some Darlington tickets......

Ya never know where I will end up. I spent a day at kathyinmo's place a month ago. Keep in mind that there is more than 2 strains of US Orps and probably at least the same with the GB birds. They all grow differently and location and management also play into this. I have raised a lot of Orps. NO GB Orps although I will shortly just so I have some experience with them.

Walt
