The question about conforming to type for acceptance by APA? That's a given. If it doesn't look like the breed it's supposed to be; who cares what color it is? I didn't know that question was directed at me.
Shape makes the breed. You knew this ole lady would say that, didn't you?![]()
I just wanted to see it posted since others here don't think it should apply.......or that is how they come across in their posts. The APA has no problem accepting other colors of Orps, but they have to meet the requirements......which takes some commitment and most aren't into that. There are a couple interesting new breeds being readied for acceptance into the ABA/APA. One of those breeds .The Ko Shamo bantam is supposed to have a split wing and is DO'd if it doesn't. Jeff has seen it and the only concern he had was the amount of points assigned to attitude/station. He was OK with the split wing, but this is not going to be an easy sell to the boards of directors. I don't see it as a problem since that is the way they are supposed to be and it breeds 95% true..maybe 100%. So folks if the APA is williing to accept a bird with a split wing, they are not going to have any problem with a new color...so relax, the APA is not the boogyman. The APA has not been approached seriously by any group asking for a new Orp color to be admitted. I have had discussions about Lavenders, but no one is pushing admittance. Basically...everyone wants us to just put new birds in, but they don't want to do the work that everyone who wants a new breed/variety goes through in both the ABA and APA. For some reason folks don't get that the Standard should not be easy to change. If it was, why even have one??
