Just wanted to add one last thing, the statement I made about the Cochins in the Orp line came straight from the breeder I purchased from in the UK. I can not tell you why or if it was even done but I can tell you that is the information I received.

It is evident that there is Cochin influence in the British Orps and I believe that Dorkings may have been put in too, but I can't understand the Dorking cross as it is a short legged bird with a totally different kind of body.

just sharing some baby pictures, my chicks are 2 weeks old today -- all three blue/lev orps seem HUGE compared to the others (a cream legbar & two basques), but two are definitely bigger than the third (one of the lavs) -- are these likely gender differences, or is it still too early to tell?


the two lavenders, the one on the left is smaller than the other two orps


the one blue -- the two larger ones definitely have a different stance, perhaps more roo-like?

way back yonder they did use dorking..i will find the book it was in and when i get on laptop..i will paste it in for you..i cant do things with this tablet...why did they use dorking? boy i sure dont know, maybe the book will tell more on why...but that way you can see for yourself.

befor i go find the book this web site...britanic rare breeds way down on the chicken page gives the recipe they used in the varieties.a white dorkng cock was used with this and that.. ,. ...........did not know this either but the recipie for buffs was pretty close to that too...walt will very much like this page.

i could see so many differences between the group..now i kind of understand why..the blk recipe was so different than the rest...

Oh I believe you for sure.

No need to find it on my account, I've heard it before. Sometimes difficult to know what all is behind the creation of a certain variety. These things are always good to know.
