The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

She's Marc's girl. I ended up with 9 cockerels out of 12 from Greenfire. I really wanted more than 3 pullets...so I added her. The whole gang is difficult to photograph since there's so many of them. But, I'll let them all out tonight and post a picture. They're getting so big. And, sadly, they've lost their baby green eyes.

In the meantime, I'll photograph them in their runs. BRB.
This is the gang in their Fort Knox runs. My husband built them 10x10 grow out pens using strut and very heavy duty hardware cloth everywhere. The girl's coop is pretty. The boy's bachelor pad is bare necessities. Just the way they would want it minus the wall to wall TV.

There's also cloth buried and a 6 inch apron. Oh, and don't forget the electric wires and the fan towards the back for when it hits over 98 degrees- they can be cool as a cucumber. Anyhow, below is my lucky 13.

VERY NICE!

i really like that dee..it pays to do it right the first time..we just used the wrong wire, never had a problem until this year..but they cant get in there now...had to swop out all chicken wire for that small hole wire..no problems since..the only one i havnt done is the baby a frame, i wont be using that till next spring..so thats going to be an october project...

Thanks Lynn but they pretty much all look like 2 dollar chickens right now. All the adult blacks are molting. I will be so glad to get through that stage cause I am ready to set up breed pens. I am hardly getting any eggs from the hens. Maybe one a day. I have a few pullets that have started laying.
my lord you have beautiful birds thou..add about 4 zeros behind that price, thats how they look to me!! hope they pick up the egg laying for you pretty soon..

I came home today to find my beautiful Splash roo, Neville, dead. He was laying on his side in the run as if he had just suddenly fallen over. No one is showing any kind of sickness in my flock, so I don't believe he passed from some kind of disease. It has been warmer here more than usual but our runs are under a large stand of trees and the birds always have a continuous supply of fresh water. I double checked to make sure that the automatic watering system was working and I couldn't find any problem. All I can think of is that his heart must have stopped, or something else internal must have gone wrong that I could not identify. He seemed perfectly fine this morning when I let everyone out of the coop. Neville would have been 3 in November.
