Here's a mystery for all of you to help me solve (if you're bored and trying to avoid cooking dinner). My neighbor has over 100 chickens. She's raised chickens for 8 years or so. She has them in 5 different groups. 4 of the groups free range in their own areas and have their own pens and coops. They can not access each other's area. The 5th group is on an "island" - an acre or so surrounded by water, accessible by a small human bridge. These chickens can not leave the island nor can others get to the surrounding water or island. She randomly moves them around on a whim. For no reason at all. Just because. Here's the mystery: the ones on the island are always healthier and lay more eggs. In fact, when some aren't looking their best she moves them to the island. They too get better. They are all fed the same, but the ones on the island only drink water from the island itself. So my guess is that there's something in the water. In the water there are minnows and bass.
Could the fish waste in the water be beneficial in some way? I NEED to know. It's driving me crazy. OK, I guess I have to go cook.
