Is it just me or does that rooster on the auction have only 2 points on it's comb?

That is all that is showing, but there are probably more that is one floppy comb an a rooster.

I agree. I think the other points are just hidden because the back of the comb is floppy.

Well it's almost been a week since my first egg. I have 6 eggs in the incubator right now. They are coming along nicely. Veins have been visible at 3 days. The only two that aren't showing development are the last two and they are not 3 days along yet.

I'm happy that she is laying like a champ. It's surprised me a bit because it seems that pullets usually take awhile to get into the swing of things once they start laying but she has only missed one day. The eggs are a beautiful blue as the pictures show and the size has gotten a tad better. Still on the smaller end though.

Just thought I would give an update. There hasn't been a lot of talk on here lately except about the ebay auctions. I'll post pics of chicks once they hatch!

Thanks for the update. I feel like the proud auntie - waiting to see the pics of the new babies! It is heartening to read that she is laying so consistently. Cream legbars are not only auto-sexing but good layers as well!

Congratulations!
Have you been weighing the eggs after they're laid? Just curious about the size of the pullet eggs. I've only had 1 bird (ameracauna) lay a huge egg from the very beginning.

Yeah wouldn't it be nice if they all started laying at fullsize!?

Here is the official "recipe" for an autosexing breed like the Creme Legbar:

I had hoped to use a Wheaten Ameraucana and Production Black (barred) Leghorns.

I have to say, though, the Norwegian Jaerhon is VERY similar and now readily available in the states, but they lack the crest and blue eggs which are key points for me.

I wonder sometimes how one might go about working in additional traits like the blue eggs into an established autosexing breed without losing the autosexing aspect?

Anyway, love the pictures of the birds. Don't freak out if your CCLB have faults, you all have to start somewhere. It's what you do NEXT that matters!

Have you done this breeding project? My question is how do you tell the impure barred brown cockerels from the pure in the last pairing? I was playing around with this on the chicken calculator with a similar combo to what you mentioned. I have California Greys hatching this weekend and will be getting Wheaten Ameraucanas this Spring.
Autosexing! The wave of the future that is actually a blast from the past!

I'm getting a couple pairs of Cream Legbars this Winter anyhows though I'm still interested in trying to build my own. That's why I'm into California Greys, white egg plus barring!? Awesome. The Barred Holland would be another breed to try. They tend to be a bit bigger and meatier which could be a nice trait to have for surplus cockerels.

The older of my cream legbar cockerels started crowing yesterday! Saddest first crow I have ever heard.

Hubby is a late sleeper and he reported a strange crow coming from the side yard yesterday. I thought he was hearing the Isbar roo in the back yard but then this morning when I went to open their coop he crowed for me. It was one loud single syllable crow. He looked awfully cute doing it though. He is starting to get the orange colored feathers in now too. It looks like he is going to be a really pretty boy. If he is half as pretty as my oldest Isbar boy I will be thrilled. The pullets are still small but maybe in three months or so we'll see eggs.

The roosters that are pure for barring will be lighter in color and have a higher ratio of white to black in the barring. The impure roosters will most likely have some unbarred feathers.
