Here is the official "recipe" for an autosexing breed like the Creme Legbar:

I had hoped to use a Wheaten Ameraucana and Production Black (barred) Leghorns.
I have to say, though, the Norwegian Jaerhon is VERY similar and now readily available in the states, but they lack the crest and blue eggs which are key points for me.
I wonder sometimes how one might go about working in additional traits like the blue eggs into an established autosexing breed without losing the autosexing aspect?
Anyway, love the pictures of the birds. Don't freak out if your CCLB have faults, you all have to start somewhere. It's what you do NEXT that matters!
Have you done this breeding project? My question is how do you tell the impure barred brown cockerels from the pure in the last pairing? I was playing around with this on the chicken calculator with a similar combo to what you mentioned. I have California Greys hatching this weekend and will be getting Wheaten Ameraucanas this Spring.
Autosexing! The wave of the future that is actually a blast from the past!
I'm getting a couple pairs of Cream Legbars this Winter anyhows though I'm still interested in trying to build my own. That's why I'm into California Greys, white egg plus barring!? Awesome. The Barred Holland would be another breed to try. They tend to be a bit bigger and meatier which could be a nice trait to have for surplus cockerels.
The roosters that are pure for barring will be lighter in color and have a higher ratio of white to black in the barring. The impure roosters will most likely have some unbarred feathers.
