The Legbar Thread!

I have been having low hatch rate on my Cream Legbars

I have nine laying Hens, I'm getting plenty of babies, but not as many a I should... Lots of late quiters...how's everyone else doing?
Any suggestion? My Hens have been laying for two to three months. Maybe they are still alittle to young..I'm not having issues with any of the other eggs in the incubator...
My hatch rates were also low early on with late quiters and now its good. Just had my first 100% hatch. Hang in there, it will get better as the egg size increases.

last weekend I got a legbar rooster. I have no hen. has anyone bred a legbar to another breed?
Yes, I have bred my CL roo to Welsummers and Crele Penedesencas. I really like the CL X CP cross as the babies are auto-sexing, and grow up looking almost identical to purebred CL. My oldest group is just under 5 months so still not sure if they will lay an Olive egg but that is the goal. Here two pictures taken of my Cream Legbar X Crele Penedesenca cross pullets (one crested/one not).

Sympathy to those of you who have lost birds....and also for the lower hatch rates.  Hope that will level out to normal.

Here's hoping that Norbert is a picture of health in a few days and feeling like himself.  BTW my chick that lost the wing is doing O.K. -- I wonder how her life will turn out.

Welcome to the thread to all the newly minted cream legbar owners.  They are fabulous birds!

I'm sure it will... Glad to here your wingless hen is doing better. I'm sorry for you loss.. :( awful !

Ditto! Still droppiing in for the fun and shared experiences here!
Also working in the Cream Legbar Working Group:SOP arena. We've got a pre-draft attempt at standards for male shape. All, please add your valuable input. It is a valuable time to do this! Thanks, tremendously!

They look dark, sleek, and pretty. I've got a boatload of crosses at nearing 3 weeks at home inculding welsummer, wyandotte, and barred rock.
Thanks for the input....its not like I need any more chicks. Good Lord! I am incubating every egg they lay. Yikes!
Hope to do that a few times before spring, but it's sensitive on how much brooding I can do! Smile.

Sure does, except for the shocking yellow legs. So far, all the CL X CP babies get the yellow legs from the CL side making them hard to tell apart. Sure would be nice if they got the White or purple pen legs.
