The Legbar Thread!

Wonderful pictures everyone.....  Wish that the happy-face cream legbars with flowers was this months calendar picture on the BYC calendar.

Thanks for posting one and all....

Thank you, that's my face every time I look at my chicks

Nice work flyingmonkeypoop. I have my first rose combed chickens and I really see the value with it up here. My poor Marans boy is probably gonna lose the back part of his blade and a few tips this winter. My CL's are young so they may make it through unscathed. Keep posting I am very interested in how they develop.
Thanks. We make our own production sexlinks here to sell locally as well and it seems like everyone loves the rose/pea/walnut combed birds, they just lay right through the winter here. My main marans rooster had a similar thing happen with him. I love my rocks and cochins for their small single combs but everything else suffers.
I am surprised at how many people are interested in it. I am glad to know that I'm not the only one who loves legbars but hates the comb. If I do sell any eggs this spring, they will not be pure for cream because it acts as a basic recessive. I have a total of 5 RC pullets so I will have extra eggs I'm sure

The rose combed pullets I have were not autosexing but their chicks will be when I mate them to a new legbar rooster. Almost all will have rose combs and I believe about half will be cream legbars with the others just being light brown legbars.
Sound like your coming along great with this venture Mike. I have two rc Br. leghorn X EE cockerels that I am saving for a similar project. Work is in progress on a crested cream legbar group and when that gets up and going the plan is to use these cockerels to make a rose comb strain. Maybe not the ideal way to go about it but thats what Im limited to for now. I am breeding for layers for the local market so egg production and auto sexing are the prioirity. Please keep updating.
