I'm not in love with the white CLs at all, I dread one popping up in my breeding plan but kudos to those of you that are working with them. If they every show up for me I'll be giving y'all a call.

Here are my two white cream legbar chicks that were hatched 4-20-2012. There is one of each and they are growing beautifully. I also hatched out two other pairs that are normal coloring. I'll post some new pictures to show how they are growing.

Is the one on the right a female? My two yellow chicks are marked like these, so I assume I got a pair.

thats correct. you can also spot the females like this...

the females will have a well defined head stripe

I know thie picture has a little bit of a blur, but wanted to post it anyway. My 5 month old CL roo. What do you guys think? Is he a keeper?

His tail angle looks good and his comb appears straight but may be short on points and not sure about the back blade portion - hard to tell . Having a crest (regardless of size) is good also. He does seem to stand quite nice and upright per the UK SOP. White earlobes. HIs wing carriage appears a bit low in this picture but this is just a moment in time so it could be just fine otherwise. If it is low - when I had an issue early on with one of my Marans boys, Snowbird suggested raising my roost, and that took care of it tout suite. He has a bit too much color for me (everyone knows that by now) as his wing bay (secondary feathers) is really golden. He is not as darkly colored as some that I've seen out there. He appears quite healthy looking, nice rooster.

blackbirds13 gave a really good evaluation of this rooster IMO, and as she said a snapshot isn't everything. Nice info about improving the wing carriage.

Is he a keeper? -- I would say that a healthy CL cockerel with lots of positives is a keeper, especially depending upon your population. With a smallish gene pool we do need to have 'lines' as varied as we can possibly get, again IMO, to promote the greatest genetic diversity that we can manage. Your own plans for your CL s will influence how it affects your flock. Is this a cockerel that you are comparing to others or is he one of a pair, or your only cockerel? And.....it looks like a nice pullet/hen on the perch behind him. Post more pictures when you get the chance. :O)

I'm no expert. But here goes anyway.

To my eye he has a splendid head and neck, beautiful hackle feathers, nice thick non-stilty legs, a pretty tail that's going to get prettier. If you have a dozen back-up cockerels that rival the best of the British ones, I'd say keep this one as the back-up quarterback. Given that none of us (that I know of) have perfect British birds, I'd be very happy to keep this fellow for breeding. He has an overall stocky look I like.

If I had to fault him, I'd point to the rather straight chest line (between hackles and legs) which is what I think Walt talked about needing to be fuller, heavier, rounder. This is another attribute that is probably rare in the current US CL population.
