Gorgeous hen Michael! Do you have any drawings of your ideal Legbar shape? I remember you working on photo overlay type shapes a while back.

I had some actual drawings on paper but thanks to the new puppy, they got eaten, lol. I will be working on some new drawings as soon as I get some spare time

based upon that much wattle at that young age. And you are right it is a very pretty bird.

That is a very recent pic and she is about a year old. She lays a really blue egg

One of my show line leghorn hens decided to venture into the deep snow so before I grabbed her, I took some pics. For me, this is my ideal looking type, maybe a little longer back would be nice but the tail is what I love. You'll have to excuse her condition, the rooster she is with is very 'active' to put it one way. She is one of the birds going into my better bodied legbar project. Imagine this hen with the normal legbar coloring, a tassel, and maybe a longer back, that is my ideal looking legbar. Maybe some day I'll have bred that bird and it may or may not have a rose comb. Now, on my next day off I'll mess with the pic and make it look more legbar like just so I have a visual of what to breed for for my own personal flock.

Michael, very nice photo in the snow. I had thought that leghorns had less body depth---but then body depth is the sign of a good layer, right, and layers are leghorns and vice versa.

Everyone---for the desired 'wedge shape' that is looking down from above right, no looking at the side view like Michael's picture.

This pet quality cockerel here... is really getting some heft to him. He doesn't seem leghorn-ish at all. Could he be pulling from the other genetics in his background. Aren't BPR's 'dual purpose' breed. For some reason my brain has lost all chicken knowledge today- the file keeps coming up 'empty'. Thanks for insights you may have.

And to be honest...aren't ALL US Legbar roosters "pet quality" at this point? Seems we don't even have standards set up for them yet, am I missing something?

And now for something completely different.

Way back at the beginning of the Legbar threads, there were a few comments about CLs being noisy. While my pair doesn't seem any more or less vocal than my other birds, James, the CL rooster, has a particularly unmusical crow. It makes us laugh every time. I'll try to get a recording. Have any of you compared your CL roosters' crowing to that of other breeds?

My cockerel's crows are pretty strained, but my full size rooster's crow is quite full sounding. I agree they are no noisier than my Ameraucanas or Black Copper Marans.

I think Kathy was talking about her cockerel. At least that is the read I got from her post.

There is a SOP that is being worked on for eventual APA acceptance.
