The Legbar Thread!

Eeeeeee! They are so wee and cute!
It's also exciting that you are in Michigan! Does that make three of us now? I do hope we can get together sometime and swap eggs or birds (if my slacker hen ever decides to lay). Please keep us updated on your flock -- and with lots of pictures!

Will do! What part of Michigan? I'm in Southwest Michigan near Kalamazoo.

They are adorable, congrats Tim! What a great start to a flock!

Thank you! I'm SOOO very happy to have them!

If babymakes6 or crazypetlady ever come on here, that is where I got these eggs. They've already got some amazing personalities as chicks.

Oh, that's great. Both great people from what I've heard. ;) babymakes6 I know personally but only second hand reports of crazypetlady.

ETA: well not "in-person" personally, but you know what I mean. Hi, babymakes6!

Hi everyone, I just got back from picking up 3 precious little 3-week old legabars from Phage!

They are so happy and funny, peeped all the way home in their big box, are eating, drinking, pooping and having fun tearing apart a grass clod.

First introductions to the dogs went well. One could care less, the other is fascinated - but I only had to tell him to "leave it" once and he got the message. (Gotta love a Border Collie!)

Will get pics soon. Nice to be an "official" part of this thread now!

I can officially post on here! I had my first Legbar hatch ever today!!! I know I have 2 males and am pretty confident that I have 7 females. Here are some blurry pictures. Let me know what everyone thinks of them.

You have no idea how excited I am!!!

You got a wonderful hatch. Congratulations on the new babies.

In the third picture in the upper left corner, you have really good examples of females of the 'light type' and the 'dark type' according to Punnett. -- I got from ebay in the UK a plate from a book that someone had removed - from the days of Punnett. He shows 5-chicks (all deceased and stuffed) -- and even back in 1938, had that variation. The title under the photos is Legbar chicks
He shows - dark, light and dark type male chicks and dark and light type female chicks.

It would be nice to get the whole article, but that's ancient for things like magazines -- it is called 'Supplement to THE FEATHERED WORLD, September 30th, 1938.'

Hope the chicks and you 'live long and prosper'.
