The Legbar Thread!

Fun looking birds, and I love the tufts on Ingrid's head! Glad they came in healthy and well!

Congrats on finally getting the new arrivals. Crazy the things we do and go through for chickens!

That's what I say! When people hear the prices I have paid for some of the birds, they about faint and always say "You spent that much on a bird?!?!". Or the trouble I went through just making it from home through town then through the big city and the freeway just to pick them up. But it is well worth it. I think they are 4 weeks so they should start laying by August.

Also, anyone know how to tell the lines apart? Mine were not banded so I really have no clue, just curious if there was an easy way you could tell by looking at them

I am glad that you have them safely home. 3 hours is a bit of a trip but after all haven't you been waiting since Christmas? I have mine home too. I will be posting pictures shortly.

So I managed to drive through the city and get there, took about 3 hours total to get there and back but it was worth it. I opened the box and they were smaller than I thought but are very meaty feeling. They already have names, the cockerel is Frederick, the curious pullet in front with a noticeable tuft is Ingrid, and the more shy pullet is Priscilla.
Sorry about the cell phone pic, my normal camera was dead.

I have 8 new additions! I ordered 2 pair of Legbar chicks and 2 lemon cuckoo Orpingtons from Richard at Jordan Farms in Georgia. They arrived at 11:00 today and He had sent extras. I now have 3 pair of Cream Legbar and 2 Lemon Cuckoo. Richard even called me to make sure that all were well on arrival. The tracking information got a little wonky after I picked them up at the post office. I am just so relieved and happy to see them. They are eating like little pigs. The Cream Legbar were hatched 2/18 and the Lemon Cuckoo look about 2 weeks old.

They don't have names yet but I sure they will soon. My daughter is already pointing out their different personality traits :)

AHhhh....

My babies in their new home. Good to see them settling in!! Even though I ship quite a bit of birds each week - I stay on pins and needles until they arrive. Tuesday and Wednesdays are very busy as I spend a good bit of time tracking birds to make sure they arrive safe and sound.

** Carol - Remember to cut off the leg bands **

Take care,
Richard

I will remove them. Just trying not to handle them too much today.

I have a question about the crests. It looks like it is not common to get a crest on a rooster? Did anyone get a hen without one? One of my 3 month old hens doesn't look like she's going to have one.

I think some hens have bigger crests than others. I may be wrong but I think all hens are supposed to have a crest but It may be extremely small. She may be a little young to start showing crest yet. She may just have a tiny one once she matures.
