The Legbar Thread!

I think that instead of that one being a CL, it is an example of a chicken with similar red face from a different forum...... His was not cooperating for a picture.

Junibutt-- probably not an irritation. Their red faces can redden and pale a bit depending on various things.....redden I think before laying. Saw one show write up where the person was mentioning that the stress of the show made her face paler and that was in just a few hours.

My little BR has a face that changes color like a mood ring. When she's on my lap, it turns red, just wandering around in the morning it's pale. I think at a young age it's more about blood circulation than puberty.

Love the mood-ring idea.

Finally got pics of my legbars from this season. The judge was Jeanette Frank, she took a copy of the proposed standard and placed my birds accordingly. I brought 2 males, 2 single comb pullets and a rose comb. They are a little excited in the cages but still great looking.

I knew Jeanette before she became a judge . Used to be active in the Ameraucana Club . She knows how hard it can be for a new breed . Very nice lady . The fact that she took the time to read your breed standard says a lot .

Flying - wow --- all home-runs.  I think that maybe your cockerel is heads and shoulders above any that I have seen to date bar none.  Was it selection -- and how many generations is he?  All of your chickens are stellar -- congrats to the judge for the excellent eyes.   :O)

Just selection. His mother was my original hen, his father is from that hen and the original rooster so he is line bred. He is HUGE in person too. The other hens have the same father but different mothers. The rose combed hen is from the original rooster too, judt not as big as the others yet. These are all from the same hatch at the end of April.

Really nice! - I have some the same age. The females are at the perfect age for showing and one is really a nice pullet - the other two are faulty....

So how much does the cockerel weigh? he's 20-weeks plus or minus then right? And I think I remember you once saying that size is a real influencing factor in shows.... Nice work on the Legbars for sure!
