The Legbar Thread!

I woke up to 5 pipped Jill Rees Cream Legbar eggs! I set 40 eggs. So, I'm anxious to see how many have hatched by the time I get home after work! Exciting!!!

I have six chicks out and another six eggs pipped! Hatch date is tomorrow. So, I'm sure I'll have plenty more chicks tomorrow!

Congrats Tim - it sounds like your hatch will be Eggcellent!

Very puny!!! ;)

I posted this on the other thread too, but I'm curious what other Legbar breeders think. Back to the discussion of color. Reading the original description of the Cream Legbar (see http://www.ias.ac.in/jarch/jgenet/41/1.pdf) , I wonder if its like the Jaerhon where the "gold" is a darker variety and the "cream" is a lighter variety. It could be that we get wonky colors because we are breeding for the dark variety in males and the light variety in females. Just a thought.

The article referenced, predates Cream Legbars, I believe - it references Gold Legbars-- but thanks for the reference- I haven't read it in a while. BTW I own a color version of the plate with the dead chicks on it - for reference of down colors....Purchased it on eBay some years back...from some seller in UK. Wish we had more good references.

I wonder if the same birds were used to develop the Cream Legbar and if that same light variety/dark variety issue was then brought into the Cream Legbar.

Can anyone guess how many Legbars I have in this picture? I had some hybrids and some other breeds in there as well.

Just trying to have a little fun! Have posted this on the Legbar Hybrid Forum as well so please excuse me for that.

Hello!

I have been interested in this breed for over a year, and am looking for someone in the Missouri area selling hatching eggs. I am near Lake of the Ozarks. I am happy to drive quite a distance to pick up. I don't do shipping as I have tried multiple times with shipped eggs, but my post office must delight in shaking boxes of shipped eggs to hear them crack.

I'm excited to hear from a breeder nearby!!!!

Thanks, and have a great day!

A great place to start is on the Cream Legbar clubs website. There is a membership directory listed by states. I hope this helps.
