The Legbar Thread!

Here's another couple pics that are better (the other was from my Instagram so I think it has a filter) I appreciate the compliments! I bought a pair of cream legbars on a whim a couple weeks ago and didn't read up, before finding out they should have crests.

cute pictures, yes crests are a requirement and the earlobes should be white so that is something to breed toward.

To tell the truth, I have had brooder babies crow at about 2-weeks. It sounds more like a screech or a scream -- I run over to see who's hurt -- like they got their leg caught under the Ecoglow or something...and they just casually go about their chick business. It isn't recognizable until you notice the timing and the tone -- it is an attempt at crowing.

I have an adult who is about 18 months old or so that has a stifled crow. -- Now think for a minute..... No crow collars can incorporate risk, surgery to reduce the crow costs a lot. You have one with a muffled crow already -- Maybe you could capitalize on it. If someone were not allowed to have roosters due to crowing -- a whole lot of people may appreciate one whith a crow that is hardly audible.

ETA I like your cockerel, and he has a nice low tail angle and long back. It is interesting that he has smallish comb and no sickles (yet). I think that he may grow up to be gorgeous... I think he has a lot going for him type-wise, and I much prefer the non-monchormatic Cream Legbar -- infact, I have to say that the background and the lighting in that last photo is fabulous... To my eye it looks like the type of picture that should be on a Calendar page for September or October..... Good job! Keep posting as he keeps growing please. :O)

Hey, I'd love to have a stifled crowing roo!!!! I'm serious - let me know if you would like to sell him!!!!!!

Here is an update on my little CCL. He was difficult to sex. Are we still thinking cockerel? He has a huge crest and his comb is straightening out! He is now about 10 weeks old. The other in the pic is my tiny little 7 week old pullet.

Great! I hope so! This little thing has been a mystery. The breeder was unsure and gave it to me. It looked like a pullet, but had a tiny white spot on its head!

Cream Legbar pullet chicks can have and do have tiny white head spots, though not all pullet chicks will exhibit this quality.
