The Legbar Thread!

I couldn't find any good pictures of a welbar, so I couldn't say. I think these girls are going to end up looking mostly black, but with some rusty highlights in the feathers. I know it's really tricky to tell how a chicken will look at this age, but I took a close up picture of one of my suspected girls to get an idea on the feather coloring. Oh, and I realized that a couple of them do have feathered shanks, so that trait is stronger than I thought.

Is that a hint of a crest I see? Her eyes are very large and pretty. Can't wait to see what she looks like when she grows up!

Thanks! so that is kind of normal for a CL comb? Unfortunately I cant keep roosters so I had to give the boys away to some local 4H kids :)

Yes the nicely crested birds' combs look a little wonky as they grow. Once her combs grows in, and flops over, expect eggs within a week! (Seems like 24 weeks is the average right now, although a few of us have some slow to mature girls too).
I hope the 4H kids have fun with those beautiful boys!

Here is my 11 week old pullet. her comb is a bit funny because of her crest but I still think she is very pretty ;)

Glamour shot! What a little movie star! :)

Unless you've got a SLACKER HEN (Jett, I'm looking at you), who is going on 28 weeks and apparently waiting for spring. Or old age. (grumble grumble) ;-)

heehee...I'm right with you Anne. I think Lucy's comb isn't much bigger than that cute little pullet above, and she'll be 24 weeks this upcoming week! She is much bigger in body though, and her face is getting really red so there is hope...

A second of my 3 young pullets started laying this week. I'm not sure which 2 but have my suspicions. I was not sure at first but found 2 small pullet eggs in the box 2 days in a row. They are about 24 - 25 weeks old.

WooHoo! Go pullets go! The mothers of my other pullets all started laying around 24 weeks so there is definitely more hope for them...in 3-4 months

Yes, that is a pretty pullet. She will grow up to be a very nice hen.

Congrats on the egg layers blackbirds13-- are you still getting that gorgeous color of blue from one and all.

Kestlyn -- it's gonna happen any day now. (talk to her)

Anne -- Jett doesn't like the weather. Once it is warmed up---then she will start.
