in the UK the breeder of this Male was told that this male could be in fact be Silver instead of gold with ig/g so she made a test outcross to a silver duckwing welsummer hen

this is the Rooster it belongs to Jilly potter from the U.K dont mind the date on the pic




can you guys guess the outcome? I'll post them in a while

So the question boils down to do you think this is a Silver [S/S], [Ig+/Ig+] bird or a Cream [s+/s+], [ig/ig] bird and if so di you know what each ouff spring would be. ¿No es así?

I am guessing that the off spring were golden duckwing cockerels [S/s+],[Ig+/ig] and gold duckwing pullets [s+/-], [Ig+/ig].

just curious what makes you think he is s+/s+ ig/ig?

Figured I'd post an update since this is the general legbar thread and not the color specific thread. My first pure rose comb legbar chicks are hatching right now. There are 5 good eggs and 2 have hatched so far but are still wet so I can't tell the gender yet. They are from a CL x (CL x RCBL) mating so I have a chance at rose comb cream legbars and rose comb light brown legbars from this mating. I also have some basic sexlink chicks from a cream legbar rooster on silver phoenix hens that I will be using in a different project (crele fly tie birds) that are very lively little monsters. When all the eggs are hatched, I will try to post a pic and the genders

I know the answer and I ended up seeing where you posted on another site that confirmed my thoughts but I'll let everyone else guess and post their thoughts...

just got some cream legbar eggs to hatch. Of course they got hung up in the US mail so I hope they hatch.
I just started reading this thread (on page 79.) I am finding it quite interesting.\
I have raised white German shepherd and have a Cremello and perlino stallion I stand at stud. I have studied the genetic in them. I am very interest in what you all are finding in these birds color wise.

Got my first ever recessive white this morning- I was beginning to think I didn't have it. I think it's a girl. I've hatched about a dozen cream legbar eggs almost every week so far this year and hadn't come across it until now. Has anyone done any test breeding with the white gene? It is possible only one of my hens carry the white gene and I can find her by elimination, or do you think my rooster has it, too? They are lovely birds of their own, but I'd rather not have the white gene in my flock. Not really sure yet what I'm going to do.

Wow, I am so excited for you. This project is quite ambitious and I can't wait until you get your line developed! For sure you need to post pictures as they grow out. Congrats!

Sounds like a question for a math and genetics test:

Given X number of hens, Y number of roosters, Z number of hatched chicks, and W being the number of chicks that are white, calculate the likelihood of the probable number of hens with that gene, the probability of the rooster being the carrier, the percentage of chicks that carry one white gene, and precisely why one stubborn 34-week-old pullet (not in the above flock) has not yet laid an egg.

That last bit about the pullet is for extra credit.
