The Legbar Thread!

Know what else? I went searching through the newsletter that I thought the draft was located in- and it wasn't there?!?! Now how did we do that? Anne did we decide to omit it from the 3rd quarter newsletter and I'm just forgetting? Or maybe I just skipped over it....

Regardless, that is what I recall we decided on the eggs. Blue and green allowed, olive not allowed. We need to add egg color to the proposed SOP webpage if it isn't there.

It's in Q2 Newsletter. I will put the egg color on Webpage and let the team Officially word it for the other locals. :O)

TheTropiX -- Thank you for finding the oversight.

I love this time of year. All of the legbars are out free ranging so I have been finding tons of random nests of gorgeous blue eggs everywhere. Shoot, I found a dozen inside of a tire the other day. One thing I noticed about my ladies is that the rose combed pullets are laying a better shade of blue (to me) than their mothers. I had a friend over to look at birds recently and noticed I only have a few RC pullets left and asked why I didn't keep the original hens just in case something happened to them. I told him it is because you never stop improving. I have pullets that are better than their mothers and cockerels better than the roosters so I will use them instead. The bad adult birds were culled so that I wouldn't be tempted to use them.

Oh -- you know what.... I don't see egg color in either the one on the website or the one in the Club house -- guess I better go check the newsletter from that quarter....BUT is it possible that egg color was omitted from the DRAFT?????

ETA - maybe my eyeballs have checked out for today -- I didn't see Egg color in the Newsletter version either...... (can you believe we didn't catch THAT? or maybe it is there and my eyes are Gone-for-the-Day.... Adios amigo(e)s

dretd waiting with bated breath to hear how you do! I recently had the same thought about the eggs touching during the pip to hatch phase, haven't tried it yet.
To Pozees and all the kind well wishers: I set the eggs 3 weeks ago at 6pm. So far all of my Wellie X eggs hatched a full day early. Fast hatch pip to zip on all those.

My first Legbar egg was pipped at about 11 pm past night the little guy hatched at about noon. Still no pips on the remaining 4, but so far everything is early so there are no worries.

It looks like a pretty (beauty is in the eye of the beholder) boy, and a light one at that--yay!

I made little egg rings from shelf lining and plastic needlepoint fabric as a sort of fake nest to contain the eggs together. This way I can keep them touching and it prevents the hatched chicks from playing kickball with the unhatched eggs. So far its working well.

Quote: I read a thread about this some time ago. The pullets and cockerels are under one year. Although you can show them young after they are fully feathered out (4 or 5 months) they recommended to wait and enter them at 8-10 months because they show much better. I believe that the weight is taken when you show them. I'll PM one of the judges and see if they have a reply.
