The Legbar Thread!

Maybe start your own thread about your concerns. There is a great internet site called Poultry hub that gives a wealth of information including LL and how it is contacted, spread, possible treatment. I use that site for my nutrition concerns.

I wouldn't disagree with you nicalandia, because I'm very inexperienced in all things to do with chickens. Just wanted to mention, I got some nice Rhodebars from huckleberry farm early last year. I sold them a long time ago to make more space for Legbars, but they were nice birds hearty and vital, hatched well. You can create Rhodebars in a few generations from barred rock and RIR can't you? From my very limited knowledge it just seems like getting good Rhodebars shouldn't be super tricky?

is not as simple as that.. you would have to outsource the e+ autosexing e allele from a different breed... if I had to recreate the breed I would cross a gold based Barred rooster of good size to a Welsummer hen, this will produce /e+ barred chicks that are gold based, then use the F1 males and mate them to HRIR Females, this will produce 50% eWh/e+ chicks most of those chicks will look wildtype of looking very close to wildtype(chipmunk) and they 50% chance of being barred.... keep the best eWh/e+ Barred males and mate them to HRIR females.. you do that till you are happy with body and size , then cross the unralted eWh/e+ B/b+ males to eWh/e+ B/- females...

I also think if gff is still getting premium price for their cl by now cream should be locked in. People like blackbirds have test mated and have locked in getting cream colored offspring. With gff being years ahead of everyone else i dont see why gold cl are still being sold. For Some people who have bought 2 males and 6 females thats a big bill to only get 2 cream hens out of it.
