What do you think that these roo and hens look like? They do seem to have a small crest but are around 18 weeks. I have been getting light blue eggs from the hen. I checked today with the white tail tip on the hen before posting this pic and she does not have any on the tip compared to this pic. Very strange.

Are you sure she is the one laying? She does not look ready to lay, any other blue layers you have that may have done the deed?

Twice, I have had pullets that had dire stress. As a result of the conditions - they had white feathering. remember that the white is when the pigment distribution is 'turned off' -- I think in the case of my pulllets they were fighting for their lives during that time - and all their systems went to survival -- forget about decoration. (I first noticed it years ago when a pullet had her wing torn off through the hardware cloth of a rabbit hutch. I didn't know if she would even survive the amputation). --

so it could be that your pullet was under some stress that she overcame and that lead to the white stripe. most likely when she molts it won't return the same way....IMO.

ETA - I think that your cockerel is great...and would probably be a fit to the alternative SOP we are exploring to include the more colorful Legbars -- we are using the working name for the variety 'crele'. :O)

He has the upright comb, as you say small crest - imo an advantage, and nice sturdy body shape.

Agreeing with Junibutt that your pullet doesn't have the tell-tale bright red face and comb/wattles--18 weeks is really early for a Legbar to lay - seems like it was averaging 24-weeks. Early laying is a good thing... (maybe that was a stressor to make white stripe feathers?) I think you have a nice pair there.

I reread my post and noticed that I oop's on the statement. They were around 18 weeks old in the picture and are now about 26 weeks old. I didn't put enough information on it. I would agree with that she does not look like she is ready in the pic and at that time she was not.

That makes perfect sense.... Junibutt was very observant to catch it....and it all falls into place now. I bet that the pullet has a redder face now-a-days!

You should have hope. :O) It was interesting to see 30 Legbars in a poultry show -- they weren't identical -- but you could tell from far away that they are all the same breed! :O)

Any comments on my rooster? I was told he is 8 months old. He's not very big, maybe 5 pounds. I'm hoping he'll get a little bigger. The hens I got with him are very small; they are all molting so I'm not going to post any pics of them right now.

It would be cool -- this was 30 legbars in an ordinary poultry show at the TX state fair in Dallas...... We all need to tote our chickens to shows - don't you think? LOL

The lady that sold me the legbars said the hens are going on 2 years old and the rooster is 8 months. The are unrelated and came from different sources.
Here is a pic of him and a different hen. He is always very "upright" I think he feels threatened here by me, the cats, the livestock, etc. We've only had them for a month. They seem to be settling in nicely and I plan to move them into the coop with the flock next weekend. I'll get more pics of the hens after their feathers have grown back in.
