I've never seen any on Craig's List, but I'm disabled and don't have transportation anyhow to go chicken shopping. Maybe I'll order some eggs somewhere along the way.

The lady shouldn't have added that egg, it will make me want more!

I have a rooster I would give you if you weren't so far away! LOL

Some one who has them - and got some regular ones from GFF at the same time is sweetDreamin' - you might PM her to ask. Do you know what your rooster weighs? Seems like mine are around 5.5 to 6 at the half-year mark now-a-days. So I think generally CLs are smaller than Marans.

My Cream Legbars have some excellent size to them, although I do think they grow slower then my other breeds. When mature my CLs were the same size as my Marans etc. One of the reasons I love the CL is because of the lovely large sky blue eggs. I would hate to see the CLs sized down due to continued breeding for cream or color. Sometimes certain traits are linked, proven through research in cattle genetics. Also many of the undesirable recessive traits will show up. I myself love the look of the cream but now I wonder if it a sacrifice for size of bird and egg. These are just thoughts to ponder. My number one goal in all of this to obtain a good sized blue eggs. Yes, I sell eggs and everyone loves the CL eggs - BIG AND BLUE and the birds have lovely temperaments and are beautiful cream or non-cream.

We are in the middle of a new 'legbar test' as I call this kind of thing. I prefer to breed only from legbars that wont succumb to frost bite. This year, the legbars are in a pen with 4' solid walls and 2' of wire at the top. Last night it got down to 7* with severe wind all night and today. This is supposed to last a few days so by next week I should know who passed the 'test'.

You pen has 4' sold walls all around and the roof/top of the pen has wire. Is this right? Are the birds exposed to snow/rain or is there a roof/solid structure over the birds and also over wire. Do you have a photo?

I am doing a test of sorts...it's currently 6 degrees with 10 mph winds and is projected to get down to negatives overnight. We will maybe get 4 + inches of snow . Two of my 5 month olds have been roosting in an apple tree and climbed so high I can't get them down. So we shall see if they survive the night without frostbite, silly chickens. I don't tend to coddle my chickens, but this is worrisome!

Sorry for the confusion. The pen overall is 16' wide, 4' deep, then 8' at the front sloping to 6' at the back. There are plywood sheets around the bottom that go 4' up. The other 2-4' is just 1" chicken wire. The top is sheet metal.

How high do you put the roosts in this set up?
I love your tree hugging Legbars! That's how mine survived a dog attack last year. I lost Barnies and Silkies but no Legbars.
