The Legbar Thread!

I currently rent in Georgia, but even if I owned, the only chicken allowed within city limits is Chick-fil-A and Zaxby's.

I'm going to start looking for a home in early 2013. I hope the realtor doesn't think I'm a crazy when I say to him/her, "Yes, the kitchen is lovely but I need to tour the backyard for chicken potential."

Looks to be a rooster.
I got some barred wheatons chicks a few weeks ago. The yellow down chicks can be really hard to distiguish with the sex-linked barring. After looking at them for a week, I just banned them all, took photos, and decided to wait for a few week to sex them.

The White legbars are deffintly eaiser to sex than a Barred Wheaton chicken. I would guess that you have a male.

I am sorry to hear that!

Is there a group working to change the ordinance in your town?

It's on my list to move out of town to get more space and have my Roosters be legal.

Even these guys have me second guessing sometimes.

I'm a realtor, and I've had several clients who have told me that they want a house where they can have chickens, so I've gotten very, very familiar with different cities' chicken ordinances. I don't even bat an eyelash if someone says that to me. Of course, I am a little eccentric, and seem to attract other eccentric people, so, you can take this as good or bad news. LOL

How long are you all finding it's taking for your legbars to start laying? I was figuring 6-7 months, but I was talking to a friend the other day who said hers took nearly a year.

Funny post! Welcome to the forum. :O)

I can't speak to when they start laying, but my cockerel just started trying to crow at 7 weeks! (I saying "trying" because he's going to need some practice before its recognizable as a rooster crowing).

I'm going to have to move him out of the city sooner than I expected...

Omigosh, crowing already? I have a gorgeous white boy who is 3.5 months old and he's not crowing yet.
