The Legbar Thread!

Hi Phage,

IMO you are 100% correct: pullet on the left and cockerel on the right. Especially based on the wattles.

Pretty birds BTW.

ETA: Whoops, didn't see the post by mamdamwlf................ Let us know when you get a crow or an egg from the chicken on the left of the picture. ;O)

ETA2 - now that I look at the one on the left...I see those feathers toward the front of the comb that look like little eyebrows. My guy has/had that eyebrow type of feathering. Now I think madamwlf has the right choice.

Seems like you should be able to make a page. Under the brown learning center tab at the top---there should be a blue 'button' that says make new page or add page. (sometimes it appears there, and sometimes it isn't there.)

With a new page...you should be able to add endless photos...then a link to the page within BYC.......... ?? should work anyway.....

Here are some color comparisons:

The above picture is on top of the inside of amazon.com giftwrap paper...and intense gold...the eggs are not quite that dark...

Same paper with a dollar bill for comparison.

the color difference is more intense than shows in the second shot... I didn't color correct on either..so it is just out-of-the-camera. The EE egg is lighter and grayer...the Cream Legbar is more intense....... I have two monitors hooked to this computer....one HP large one and the one that came with the laptop--so I can really see the differences the monitor shows. The HP monitor is more like the real colors.

Regarding size. The EE egg is 2.xx oz-- she's really consistent. I think 2 oz is 57grams for gram people. My Cream Legbar is laying in the small size range, she lays consistently/daily. Perhaps smaller eggs are a norm for this breed. That being said, I have heard that the chickens who lay the giant eggs will burn themselves out more quickly than the ones that lay moderate eggs. So hopefully I have this hen around for a very long time. :O)

Question for Johnn or Silverfox if you read this...are eggs in the UK (thinking supermarket here) generally a bit smaller than the eggs in the USA. The bigger egg of the two is -- considered size Large by the US Department of Agriculture. Here's a chart.
Link to egg size chart:

sometimes I think that everything in the USA has been supersized including our portions and our waistlines. LOL

ETA - btw, I had the camera set on "food mode" or gourmet mode as my camera says....and it does intensify the colors in adverse lighting (normal room light).

haha. Speaking of pics. lmao.... I will take some for you in the next few days. I wanted to last week just so you could see how the babies are turning out. This last week they have changed so much, I think you will happy with your breeding results.

So you kept the light colored chick right. Did you keep any of the other chicks you got on that hatch?
