Nope. Daryl never gained any weight. The first column was daryl's actual weight and the second column was how much he was supposed to weigh.

Yes! Play vocalisations, and report Daryl's behaviour

As fast as I can type
– female, from the vocal sac

but almost no male-with-chicks clips cause the ‘safari parks’ don’t seem to allow males to parent

– male, quiet

– wild guess here: captive female present at hatch, clearly aggressive behavior: chest feather up, vocalizing, and pacing (often as ‘sideways boogie’); you can hear dad at intervals, a sort of ‘growly purr’
And noteable here, as the male turns the eggs, is the super-careful-daddy movement as the male steps around the eggs and chick. In the wild, this is hilarious, with a big clutch, the male looks as though it’s hobbled, tottering around with weeny steps.

– extremely interesting (rare) footage. Not only males and females, but gives and idea of the mélange of calls that you get at times in the wild

[can hear Eric’s Cheepers vocalizing as I type]

– finally, all opinions, please: this clip puzzles and fascinates me. At about 34 seconds, is that an adult at back left? With white ruff and reflection of blue skin? Otherwise, ARE THESE CHICKS? If so, they’re a clutch that has been parented will into the second year. Are they NOT chicks? They got black heads?
And note also that this is a classical type of emu territory: open, with a variety of plants and grasses.

Check these ‘chicks’ with a photo of Uno Chick (whom you've met above):

This is what I came downstairs to this morning. We're going to go outside later. We have about a foot of snow here but Daryl needs his exercise.

This picture of Daryl shows where his neck is starting to get his grey adult feathers. He's starting to lose his stripes!
He turned 7 weeks old yesterday and this picture is from just a few hours ago.

Yes, losing his stripes, mich; but 'black head' comes next.

Hi! I am celebrating my first week as an emu mom. Your posts have been fun to read. I believe I have 2 girls and one boy. I bought them from a breeder up in Blackhawk, CO. They should be 3 weeks old roughly although Zoe might be 4 as she is considerably larger than Alana and Sheldon. Little Sheldon started flipping over and having seizures last Monday. It has been a rough week of feeding him thru a tube shoved down his throat. He also learned that if he bangs on the bathtub side in the middle of the night that mom runs in to get him and we sleep together on the couch for the rest of the night. Would you mind if I follow you and we share stories and info?
